Dog-Friendly Campgrounds Near San Diego: Pet Rules & Fees
Dog-friendly camping near San Diego includes County campgrounds in Ramona, Oceanside, Julian, and Campo plus selected California State Park campgrounds. “Dog friendly” does not mean dogs can go everywhere in the surrounding park: trail, beach, cabin, and water-access rules can be more restrictive than the campsite itself.

San Diego County Campground Dog Rules
San Diego County rules require pets in County parks to remain physically restrained, generally on a leash no longer than six feet, unless otherwise authorized. County camping fees currently include up to two dogs in the campsite fee; an additional dog, when allowed, is $2 per night.
There is an important exception if you are considering a cabin. The County’s cabin-camping information states that pets are not allowed in or around its cabin areas. A campground that accepts dogs at tent or RV sites should therefore not be treated as a dog-friendly cabin destination.
See the San Diego County camping and pet fee information and County park pet regulations for the current framework.
Dos Picos County Park
Dos Picos County Park is at 17953 Dos Picos Park Road in Ramona. The campground offers tent sites, partial-hookup sites, and other camping facilities in an oak-and-chaparral setting.
The County currently lists tent camping at $33 per night and partial hookups at $39 per night. The park’s published rules allow pets when properly restrained and controlled, with dogs on a leash no longer than six feet and attended at all times.
Do not book a Dos Picos cabin if you are bringing a pet; County cabin rules prohibit pets in cabin areas. Check the official Dos Picos County Park page for current reservations and park updates.
Guajome Regional Park
Guajome Regional Park at 3000 Guajome Lake Road in Oceanside is one of the more coastal County camping options, about eight miles from the Pacific Ocean. The park currently has 33 tent and RV campsites and about 4.5 miles of trails.
The current County fee schedule lists full-hookup camping at Guajome at $42 per night. Dogs at County campsites are subject to the County leash and control rules, while Guajome’s cabins fall under the County no-pets cabin policy.
See the official Guajome Regional Park page for camping reservations and current park information.
William Heise County Park
William Heise County Park near Julian offers a mountain setting at roughly 4,200 feet in the Laguna Mountain Range. The campground has tent sites, non-hookup sites, partial-hookup sites, and cabins, with nearly 11 miles of hiking and equestrian trails in the park.
Current County prices are $33 per night for tent-only sites, $36 for non-hookup sites, and $39 for partial hookups. Dogs at regular campsites are subject to County leash rules, but pets are not allowed in the cabin area.
Before planning hiking from your campsite, verify the current trail rules and any construction or closure notices. See the official William Heise County Park page.
Lake Morena County Park
Lake Morena County Park is at 2550 Lake Morena Drive in Campo and combines camping with an East County lake-and-mountain setting. The County currently lists tent, non-hookup, partial-hookup, and full-hookup campsites.
Current nightly rates are $33 for tent-only camping, $36 for non-hookup sites, $39 for partial hookups, and $42 for full hookups. The park’s published pet rules state that dogs must be licensed, restrained on a leash no longer than six feet, and attended at all times.
The County’s general cabin policy means pets are not allowed in the Lake Morena cabin area. See the official Lake Morena County Park page for current reservations and park information.
South Carlsbad State Beach Campground
South Carlsbad State Beach offers bluff-top camping at 7201 Carlsbad Boulevard. It can look like an obvious dog-and-beach camping choice, but the dog rule is narrower than that.
California State Parks currently states that dogs are allowed only in the campground and are not allowed on South Carlsbad State Beach. That makes this a dog-friendly campsite, not a dog-friendly beach destination.
Reservations and pricing vary by site and date, so use the official South Carlsbad State Beach page and its ReserveCalifornia availability tools before booking.
Cuyamaca Rancho State Park
Cuyamaca Rancho State Park provides a mountain camping option east of San Diego. California State Parks currently allows dogs in the campgrounds and on designated paved park roads.
That does not mean the park’s dirt hiking trails are dog friendly. If hiking with your dog is the main reason for the trip, choose a campground only after confirming that the routes you want to use actually permit dogs.
Check the official Cuyamaca Rancho State Park page and California State Parks dog-access guide before booking.
Current San Diego County Camping Prices
San Diego County’s January 2026 fee schedule currently lists common campsite rates of $33 per night for tent-only sites, $39 for partial hookups, and $42 for full hookups at parks where those site types are offered. Non-hookup sites at listed parks are $36 per night.
An $8 non-refundable reservation fee applies per County campsite reservation. Two dogs are included in the campsite fee; additional dogs, if allowed, are currently $2 per night each.
See the current San Diego County Parks fee schedule before booking because rates can change.
Reserve the Right Type of Site
If you are camping with a dog, check the exact accommodation type—not only the park name. A County park may allow dogs at tent and RV campsites while prohibiting them in cabins. A State beach campground may allow dogs at the campsite but prohibit them on the beach.
County campground reservations are available through the San Diego County Parks camping reservation system. State Park reservations are linked from each individual State Park page.
